Lung Surgery

Good lung health is necessary for survival. Sometimes, however, surgical intervention is needed to correct problems with the lungs. Lung surgery is basically a procedure that allows doctors to access the lungs for diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. The surgeon will employ one of two methods of entry: thoracoscopy, which uses an endoscope to look at the tissues of the lungs, or thoractomy, which involves making an incision in the chest to gain access to the internal organs. Both are performed under general or local anesthesia. There are a few reasons why your physician may require you to go under the knife.

The most common reason for lung surgery is to remove an identified mass or growth. The doctor may first perform a biopsy to determine whether the mass is cancerous (malignant) or non-cancerous (benign). Depending on the diagnosis, the doctor may recommend further surgery to remove that tissue. This may involve taking a small part of the lung (wedge resection), a greater portion (segment resection), the entire lobe (lobectomy), or the entire lung (Pneumonectomy). How much of the lung is removed is dependent on the severity of the disease or the amount of damage done to the lungs.

Another reason for lung surgery is if a person has a collapsed lung. Pneumothorax or collapsed lung may occur if there is a rupture in the lung wall and air is allowed to seep into the pleural space between the lungs and the chest wall. This condition can onset in people with lung disease, people who have experienced physical trauma to the chest, as a complication of other medical treatments, or even spontaneously in people with otherwise healthy lungs. During surgery, tubes are inserted into the chest to drain the air out which allows the lung to re-inflate and damage to the lung is repaired.

As the result of disease, like pneumonia, or other medical complications fluid may collect around the lungs. This can make it difficult for a person to heal from their sickness as well as increase the risk that other infections may develop. Similar to treating a collapsed lung, tubes are placed into the pleural space except this time they are used to drain the excess fluid. Lung surgeries are generally performed by specially educated surgeons. If your doctor recommends lung surgery to treat your medical condition, take time to search for knowledgeable and experienced surgical professional to ensure a successful surgery.

Kidney

The kidney is the organ of birth, death, and reproduction. It provides our basic essence of health-whether we are born healthy and meant to live a long, disease-free life, or we are born to a host of illnesses, all depends on the kidney. This organ is responsible for bone, teeth, and development, so people born with spinal or congenital issues are said to have weak kidney energy.

The kidney is also the organ that gives us our reservoir of the energy that gets us through the day. If the kidney is weak, the patient will feel fatigued, even after a full night's rest. If the kidney energy is strong, the patient will be strong and full of vitality. As the kidney essence declines throughout life, symptoms become more pronounced;that's why we start feeling less energetic as we get older. Due to its link with bone, declining kidney energy also leads to low back, knee, and ankle pain. Since the kidney rules the process of aging, you can lay the blame for that bald spot here. Lost teeth, missing hair, and premature graying are all due to the kidney. Hearing loss is also a sign of declining kidney energy.

Long-lasting, chronic issues are connected to the kidney. If someone has an issue that has been going on for years, such as degenerative disks or osteoporosis, it is linked to this organ. It also has a lot to do with reproduction, so if the energy is weak, the patient will have difficulty conceiving or be prone to frequent miscarriages (although both issues can stem from imbalances in other organ systems as well.) For the males, weak kidneys can lead to impotence, premature ejaculation, or a diminished sex drive. Excess Yang energy of the kidney can have the opposite effect, leading to an unhealthy and excessive desire for sex. In the case of females, the loss of kidney energy becomes more marked during menopause, when the lack of Yin brings on the end of the period, and of the ability to conceive.

Two distinct signs that the kidneys are out of balance are tinnitus and cock's crow diarrhea. Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) that is low-pitched is related to the kidney, while hearing a high-pitched sound points to an imbalance of the Liver. Cock's crow diarrhea is diarrhea that is only experienced early in the morning. This is a sign that the energy of the kidney is not working with the spleen to assist in assimilation and absorption of food.

Heart Valve Replacement Surgery

Heart valve disease is a condition where one or multiple valves in the heart do not function properly. In a healthy heart the valves open and close once during each heartbeat which ensures blood flows in the right direction. However, valves can fail to open properly (called stenosis) or close properly (called regurgitation) which can result in blood being stopped at inopportune moments or leaking. The type of heart valve disease you have (aortic, mitral, pulmonary, or tricuspid) depends on the valve affected. Treatment of the condition may include medication, balloon valvotomy, or heart valve replacement surgery. If your condition is mild enough, the doctor may take a wait and see attitude.

When it comes to heart valve surgery, the surgeon may take one of two approaches. The doctor may repair the valve. This involves tightening the valve by sewing a ring around the opening. The valve may also be cut, separated, or shortened in order to get it function properly. The other option the surgeon may take is to completely replace the valve with a prosthetic. The prosthetic may be mechanical and made from artificial materials. These types of valves require the patient to take an anticoagulant for the rest of their life. Biological prosthetics also exist which are transplanted from cows, pigs, or other human donors. However, these valves tend to wear out quicker than mechanical ones.

Heart valve replacement surgery is similar to bypass surgery. The patient is put under general anesthesia and the chest is opened. Since the heart cannot beat during the surgery, the patient is hooked up to a heart-lung machine that ensures oxygen is circulated throughout the body. The heart is then stopped so that the surgeon can repair or replace the valve. Minimally invasive heart valve surgery can be done as an alternative. This option involves smaller cuts in the chest which result in a faster recovery and less pain.

This type of surgery is highly successful and valves can last for 8 to 20 years depending on the type used. The development of medical complications from heart valve surgery was relatively low however bleeding, blood clots, and infection can occur. Addition risks associated with this surgery includes heart attack, irregular heartbeat, kidney failure, stroke, low grade fever coupled with chest pain, and death. Additionally, you may need to take anticoagulant medication to prevent other complications from developing. More information about heart valve replacement surgery can be obtained from a qualified medical professional.

Good Body Condition

In general an unhealthy intestinal region leads to many diseases and problems to our body. Human colon, the large intestine helps in the process of eliminating bodily wastes and other toxins. However for some people, this process of eliminating the wastes from our body slows down.

Here are some problems associate with this and some recommended treatments.

We normally make a healthy bowel movement at least once per day (sometimes two). When it happens, the wastes are eliminated very quickly and easily. There is no reason to sit on the toilet for lengthy periods trying to "go".

The fecal matter we produce are wastes and therefore poisonous to our bodies. It needs to be eliminated as quickly as possible. If it gets "stuck" in our colon, this is an unhealthy situation.

It can lead to fatigue, skin problems, and even mental depression. And if this problem continues long enough, there is risk of cancer developing.

The colon must function more effectively and ensure that it is properly cleansed on a regular basis. The good news is that there are many effective treatments to improve upon this and turn it around.

The primary cause for many of these problems comes from malnutrition. This takes many forms. First of all, it is vitally important to drink plenty of fluids. If you become dehydrated, it can dry out the waste materials in your colon and make it hard and difficult to expel.

A well balanced diet with fresh vegetables and plenty of fiber is also key to maintaining a healthy colon and regular bowel movements. If you don't get enough fiber in your regular diet, then add supplements.

And exercise is a very important part of maintaining good colon health. If you can't make it to a gym, then walk or run on a regular basis. If you have a dog, he would be a great exercise partner.

Every few months, you should do a thorough colon flush. There are many good products available for this purpose. Look for natural or holistic compounds as this tends to be less stressful on the body. They may be available in pill, powder, or liquid form.

These kinds of products tend to gently and naturally stimulate your colon to flush out built up fecal matter and "clean the pipes". In this way you'll feel much better and be well on your way towards overall good health and well being.

Diet Substitute For Refreshing Water

We are what we eat, but we are also what we eat and drink. Beverages are consumed in America by the millions of gallons every day with very little focus on what we are really allowing ourselves to drink. Beverages have a very alarming effect on our overall health and health issues we are dealing with. What we are told about many of these drinks and what the truth is, are very misleading. It is also true that beverages have a larger than life impact on the health of Americans and not in a very good way, creating some very serious heath problems as our thirst is quenched every day.

Many people don't even begin to realize the calories that they drink in each day until they begin to diet. It is very easy to overlook beverages when you are eating but these drinks can really pack some calories onto your daily consumption. Calories are not the only issue that plagues the refreshing beverages we consume each day. Sugar is another significant issue that affects many beverages. Even those that are natural such as juices contain a significant amount of sugar and when given over the course of a lifetime can significantly increase the chance of developing diabetes.

The most basic of beverages is naturally water, followed by black coffee and herbal teas that have properties that are very beneficial to the body and good health. When consumed without all the additives, these drinks are a very natural healthy alternative to the deceptively parading junk we have been consuming.

Milk and juice have long been promoted by the health industry as the ideal drink for toddlers and young children, but the research has shown that both these products are very sugary and promote tooth decay in babies as well as young children. Teaching your child to drink pure water very early will serve them well into adulthood. They will be leaner and much healthier without the sugar additives.

Doing a beverage house cleaning will significantly change the direction you and your family's health. Putting an equal amount of focus on beverages we consume, will bring to light the true contents of what we are drinking and the impact this is having on our health if we continue without any changes. It is much better to return to water as our choice of beverage to drink. This will improve overall health, help keep the waistline trim while adding money to the budget, all of which do impact our lives.

Child Evaluated for ADHD

Deciding to give your child ADHD tests is a big decision for a parent to make. After all, it's normal for children to be hyperactive and dreamy, especially when placed in boring situations. So when should you have your child professionally evaluated for ADHD?

Many parents have noticed for years that their child is different from other children; after all, excessive energy, inattention, and poor control over emotions are symptoms that are difficult to ignore. They do their best to manage their children's disruptive behavior, but their efforts seem to make no difference. When these two factors meet and parents notice that they keep on struggling to help their child, they start to wonder if maybe something is medically wrong.

In some cases, a child's problematic behavior is pointed out by teachers, babysitters, or day care staff; parents receive complaints that their child behaves disruptively and is difficult to handle. Often, reports of ADHD-like behavior become more frequent during the child's first year or two at school. In the more structured setting of an elementary school, a child who cannot stay in his seat or be quiet in class will easily be noticed by a teacher. The parent is then advised to have the child evaluated for ADHD, but it's not uncommon for some to dismiss these complaints and remain unconcerned about their child's behavior.

At some point, a parent will admit to themselves that their child does have a problem. They'll turn to the internet and go to the library for information on how to manage the condition. Based on what they find, they might avoiding artificial additives, sugar, or enforcing more structure at home. While it's good to inform yourself about the condition, don't try to treat ADHD without professional advice. If treated incorrectly, ADHD can interfere with your child's development and place him or her at risk for dangerous behavior. Don't ignore the symptoms and hope that your child will grow out of it, either. Consider seeking the help of a professional if you notice the following behaviors:

For six months or more, your child is unusually inattentive, impulsive, or far more active than children of his or her age

For six months or more, teachers and other parents point out that your child is more inattentive, impulsive, or active than children of his or her age

You spend more time managing your child's behavior or keeping your child safe than other parents with children of the same age

Other kids avoid playing with your child because of aggressive, emotional, or hyperactive behavior. Your child does not get invited to birthday parties or play dates.

You feel exhausted when you spend time with your child and you worry that you might end up physically harming your child as a form of discipline.

Better Health And A Longer Life

One of the biggest reasons why New Year's resolutions very often don't help is that too many people try to take off gung-ho in the New Year hoping above all else to change their entire life during the month of January. While this may be a very ambitious goal, for most it is truly impossible to revamp their entire lives in 30 days and therefore they very simply go back to their old ways, giving up entirely on the goals they set for themselves. New Year's resolutions and for that matter any goals that one sets for themselves throughout the year can be very easily attained by approaching them from a good, healthy perspective.

Taking steps to change your life and create a healthier lifestyle should be taken seriously and yet not be taken to the extreme. Implementing any type of life change can be difficult and those who are most successful at making life changes have done so at a very slow step by step pace. Doing so does not seem so overwhelming and helps assimilate the changes without overwhelming.

To successfully change your eating and diet habits you should begin with changes that only make health sense. Start replacing most of your drinks with water and plenty of it. It is not only healthy but it is a necessary component for living and is a natural cleanser. Begin adding whole grain breads to your diet. A healthy life changing diet will also include generous servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. These small seemingly insignificant steps will reap bountiful health rewards. Making these good changes a life long habit will not only make you feel better but will add years to your life.

Many people try to focus more on exercise as a way to stay healthy and this is a very important part of changes that need to take place. The fact is that if you take on these changes too quickly and over do it, you will-loose your motivational steam and soon throw in the towel of defeat and settle back into the destructive habits you are trying to change. Lasting lifestyle changes need to be done in a realistic way that will make meeting your set goals very reachable and will be a stepping stone to the next phase of your life style changes and can be motivation enough to make giving up an unacceptable option. Start slowly and increase your activity level every day or week allowing your body to get used to the changes and begin to crave more of the changes. Going from the couch to 10 miles just isn't going to happen for most-people that are human.

The changes that can be implemented from most anyone with the desire to change, will most always work best if the start is slow and is increased slowly. A good New Year's resolution should by designed to last all year-long, because the changes that need to take place will take longer than the couple of months you are hoping for. Increase your expectation by making your goals and resolutions more change friendly. A better resolution plan could include a full twelve months before making the next phase of changes the next New Year's resolution.
