Benefits of Oxygen Therapy

Oxygen therapy is in high demand today. A report attributed to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that about a million of U.S. population yearly receives oxygen related therapy on a long term basis through Medicare. This therapy is also available on a short-term basis depending upon what a patient's condition requires. The benefits that come with this form of therapy are numerous. This article considers some of them.

This type of therapy is an efficient way of treating interstitial lung disease; a disease caused by scarring on the lungs which can be linked to toxic intake, trauma and drugs. Even in cases where this therapy did not eliminate the disease, it greatly assists the patient in breathing. Apart from making sleeping easier for sufferers, it lessens blood pressure thereby protecting the patient from pulmonary hypertension and deadly failing of the ventricle heart muscle.

This therapy reduces the strain a patient passes through while breathing. There are quite a number of health conditions that damage the airways thereby curtailing the proper exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide while breathing which makes the pumping of oxygen to different body organs a strenuous task for the heart. For patients with COPD, this therapy enhances the ability to exercise, heart functions, mental clarity, length of life, and overall health.

This therapy is a major component in the treatment of cases of carbon monoxide and alcohol poisoning. Alcohol poisoning is often linked to binge drinking although it could also be the result of accidentally consuming alcohol mixed with harmful household products. It has been said by experts that carbon monoxide poisoning due to faulty auto exhaust systems and poor venting is the major cause of poisoning related death in the U.S. In the case of alcohol poisoning, this therapy is combined with intravenous hydration, careful monitoring and airway protection.

This form of therapy is mostly prescribed for patients of pneumonitis or pneumonia by medical practitioners, particularly when patients are about to sleep or engage in exercise. Oxygen related therapy, in this case, is prescribed in combination with corticosteroids which reduces inflammation and antibiotics which fights infection. These medications are necessary since pneumonitis involves lung tissue inflammation, an illness cause by at least one of these: exposure to chemotherapy, chest radiation therapy, asbestos, or poultry.

Another outstanding benefit of this form of therapy is the fact that it is not compulsory you receive it in the hospital; you can as well receive it at home. Oxygen related therapy is also good for illnesses that have to do with blood not getting sufficient oxygen like hypoxemia. The content of oxygen in the atmosphere is a meagre 21% and for very populated areas, the atmospheric content of oxygen is even lower. Oxygen related therapy makes up for this shortage by providing pure oxygen which can ease the strain of breathing on your heart as well as eliminate shortness of breath. There are people who employ portable oxygen tank, one form of oxygen therapy, to improve the quality of their lives.

Significantly Reduce Asthma Attacks

Asthma is a devastating disease for many people. I should know. My son and I have both suffered through endless inhalers and nebulizers over the years. There isn't very much that is more frightening that gasping for air and getting very little. Fortunately as I got older my symptoms diminished but my son's remained the same. So I needed to learn as much as I could about this awful disease and figure out ways to diminish its impact on the health of my son and to help me with the occasional attack.

Medical professionals still don't really know what causes asthma. Some believe there is a genetic component as do I since my father, my son and myself all had it. Some believe that early respiratory infections or exposure to allergens in early childhood as the immune system is developing may be the culprit. I have even heard some doctors claim we are too clean and that may be the reason. Whatever the cause, there are definitive ways to treat Asthma.

Here are my suggestions:

Limit or eliminate the triggers of your asthma attacks: Many people don't know what trigger their attacks. I had to find out what caused mine and what caused my son's. So I started keeping a notebook and recorded everything I could when an attack occurred. I finally figured out that it was specific foods that were causing our attacks. I eliminated these foods from our diets and it reduced the frequency of attacks significantly.

Exercise more often: You need to have your body in good physical condition to prevent attacks. But you also need to be careful not to over-exert yourself or this may bring on an attack. The best method is to start off moderately and increase the intensity of your routine as time goes on. You will begin to learn what your body can endure without having an attack.

Prescription Medications: My son had been taking Singular for a period of time and it really seemed to help. But we had to pull him of it when we learnt that there was a number of adolescent committing suicides while on Singular and that this medication may be the cause. Be extremely careful of prescription medications. Sometimes the treatment is actually worse that the side effects.

Eat well and get enough sleep: You need to strengthen your immune system and eating healthy food and getting at least eight hours of sleep every night will help you do so.

OTC Asthma Treatments: There are over the counter treatments that work quite well at relieving asthma symptoms. If you try one, make sure the ingredients are FDA registered and make sure you get a money back guarantee. That way you have nothing to lose.

Good Body Condition

In general an unhealthy intestinal region leads to many diseases and problems to our body. Human colon, the large intestine helps in the process of eliminating bodily wastes and other toxins. However for some people, this process of eliminating the wastes from our body slows down.

Here are some problems associate with this and some recommended treatments.

We normally make a healthy bowel movement at least once per day (sometimes two). When it happens, the wastes are eliminated very quickly and easily. There is no reason to sit on the toilet for lengthy periods trying to "go".

The fecal matter we produce are wastes and therefore poisonous to our bodies. It needs to be eliminated as quickly as possible. If it gets "stuck" in our colon, this is an unhealthy situation.

It can lead to fatigue, skin problems, and even mental depression. And if this problem continues long enough, there is risk of cancer developing.

The colon must function more effectively and ensure that it is properly cleansed on a regular basis. The good news is that there are many effective treatments to improve upon this and turn it around.

The primary cause for many of these problems comes from malnutrition. This takes many forms. First of all, it is vitally important to drink plenty of fluids. If you become dehydrated, it can dry out the waste materials in your colon and make it hard and difficult to expel.

A well balanced diet with fresh vegetables and plenty of fiber is also key to maintaining a healthy colon and regular bowel movements. If you don't get enough fiber in your regular diet, then add supplements.

And exercise is a very important part of maintaining good colon health. If you can't make it to a gym, then walk or run on a regular basis. If you have a dog, he would be a great exercise partner.

Every few months, you should do a thorough colon flush. There are many good products available for this purpose. Look for natural or holistic compounds as this tends to be less stressful on the body. They may be available in pill, powder, or liquid form.

These kinds of products tend to gently and naturally stimulate your colon to flush out built up fecal matter and "clean the pipes". In this way you'll feel much better and be well on your way towards overall good health and well being.
